Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

A step-by-step guide for setting up Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Prerequisites

  • A computer with stable Internet connection and a web browser
  • A cell phone with Microsoft Authenticator app installed

Steps

  1. Step 1: Attempt to Sign In

    Open your web browser and navigate to the Outlook sign-in page.
    Enter your JIBC email address and click Next.
    When prompted, enter your password and click Sign in.

  2. Step 2: Respond to the MFA Prompt

    After entering your password, you will see a prompt indicating that additional verification is required. Click on 'Next'

  3. Step 3: Choose Your Verification Method

    We will use the default verification method, which is via the Microsoft Authenticator app.

  4. Step 4: Set up Microsoft Authenticator

    Open the authenticator app on your phone. Click on the + icon on the top bar, select 'Work or school account' option and then select 'Scan a QR code'.

  5. Step 5: Set up MFA

    Scan the QR code displayed on the screen.

    After scanning the code and adding the JIBC account to the Authenticator app, Microsoft will conduct an initial test to verify the account. Please follow the on-screen instructions.
